Quick answer

WeWard converts steps into Wards you can cash out to PayPal, Venmo, bank or gift cards, with transfers within 15 days. Sweatcoin pays 1 sweatcoin per 1,000 verified steps minus 5%, but you can't cash out to PayPal or bank; you spend sweatcoins in its marketplace. Sweatcoin's recent reviews are far better (4.25 vs 3). Sweat Wallet closes on 30 December 2026.

WeWard vs Sweatcoin comes down to whether you want cash. WeWard lets you turn your steps into real money, by bank transfer, PayPal or Venmo, as well as gift cards. Sweatcoin doesn't: its own help center says you can't cash out sweatcoins to PayPal or a bank, and you spend them in its marketplace on products, discounts and auctions instead. Sweatcoin, though, has much happier users right now: its recent reviews average 4.25 stars against WeWard's 3. If you want money, use WeWard. If you want a calm step counter with occasional prizes, Sweatcoin is the nicer app.

There's also news if you use Sweat Wallet, Sweatcoin's separate crypto app: it's closing in its current form on 30 December 2026. More on that below.

How each turns steps into rewards

Sweatcoin: a fixed rate, no cash

Sweatcoin is refreshingly precise. Its help center says 1,000 verified steps convert to 1 sweatcoin, minus a 5% commission, so 10,000 steps a day earns 9.5 sweatcoins. Its algorithm checks steps against movement data and discounts shakes and bumps, so not every step on your phone will convert.

What you can do with sweatcoins is the key difference. Sweatcoin's help center says plainly that you can't cash out to PayPal or a bank. Instead you spend them in the marketplace on offers, products and discounts. PayPal and Amazon vouchers do appear, but in auctions, and some offers need extra money for the rest of the price or delivery. There's also a daily ad-based reward you can claim up to three times a day.

WeWard: steps to cash

WeWard turns steps into Wards that you can convert to bank transfers, PayPal, Venmo, gift cards, deals or donations. Its conversion guide explains the process: your details must match your ID, you confirm the request by email within 60 minutes, and the transfer arrives within 15 days. A short video ad can play when you convert your steps, which WeWard says funds the free rewards. Our is WeWard legit guide covers the cashout rules in full.

Sweat Wallet is closing: what it means

Sweatcoin had a sister app, Sweat Wallet, that let you walk for a crypto token called SWEAT, and it was the main way to get monetary value from steps in the Sweatcoin family. According to Sweatcoin's help center, The Sweat Foundation announced on 1 October 2026 that Sweat Wallet and the SWEAT token, as they exist today, will end on 30 December 2026. The token itself continues to exist on the NEAR blockchain after that date.

The Sweatcoin app is not affected. It's run by a different company, Sweatco Ltd, and your sweatcoins, purchases and Premium carry on as normal. If you hold SWEAT in Sweat Wallet, read the Sweat Foundation's instructions well before 30 December.

What recent reviews say

The difference in mood is striking. Sweatcoin's 500 most recent written reviews (21 July to 11 October 2026) averaged 4.25 stars, with 347 five star reviews. WeWard's (6 August to 10 October) averaged 2.99, with 180 one star and 186 five star reviews.

Sweatcoin's complaints are about the deal getting worse over time: more ads (18% of its bad reviews), prizes that feel out of reach, step history changes, and the lack of cash. Long-time users describe saving for big rewards that now go to auctions. WeWard's complaints are about redeeming: 30% of its bad reviews were about converting or receiving cashouts, 13% said rewards were too small, and 8% mentioned Premium billing.

One way to read this: Sweatcoin sets low expectations (no cash, just perks) and meets them. WeWard promises cash, which raises the stakes when a transfer is slow or rejected.

Which should you choose?

If you want actual money for walking, WeWard is the only one of the two that pays cash. Follow its cashout steps exactly and be patient with the 15 day transfer window. If you mainly want a reliable step counter with streaks, badges and a chance at discounts or prizes, Sweatcoin is the more pleasant, better-reviewed app. Many walkers run both, since they count the same steps.

Neither will pay much on its own, because walking rewards are funded by ads. For bigger amounts, game and app offers pay far more per hour. See apps that pay you to walk and Scrambly vs WeWard, or try Vazpop, where 3,500+ offers show their dollar reward up front and you can cash out from $5 to PayPal, gift cards or USDC with no fees.
